2020 changed Everything!

Well, to be honest, I know nobody will disagree with the fact that 2020 changed our lives. The way we live, the way we think, and even the way we imagine our future. Suddenly, we were not so sure of anything anymore. I speak for everyone when I say the "C" word was dreaded more than any other viral infection and had the power of changing all basic rules of living. All one had to say was, oh due to COVID-19 we have this delay/change/new rule. Common folks like you and me were just juggling to make ends meet. Be it about keeping a sane home or cooking food. The news was always too jarring that I stopped listening and reading any news in the mornings.

The start to the year for me was like the perfect holiday start in Goa. We booked two places and stayed for 8 whole days just soaking up the sun and letting our worries melt away with the lovely Arabian sea. This was the perfect way to say goodbye to a year for us and welcome new possibilities. I love to plan ahead of time so I made my Top 10 wish list for the year 2020 at sunset on 31st December 2019.

Wish the sun would never set...

1. Start my business in Dehradun

2. Buy a new car

3. Spend more time with family

4. Invest more in mutual funds and track actively

5. Join a dance class

6. Read 12 books (at least)

7. Write gratitude daily and keep a journal

8. Bring yoga into your routine

9. Meditate (I have already started)

10. Spend quality time with Ivaan (my son)

Have you heard the quote "Man plans and God Laughs." That's exactly how I felt when things being brewed in the universe started to bubble and evidently fill the entire world with its aroma. Okay in spite of Corona, I may have worked on my plans but then came a pleasant surprise from Abhi, my hubby. He got an offer to move to Austria (yes Austria and not Australia)!!

Moving to a new country can be a dream come true. The dream gets even sweeter if the country we are talking about is in Europe and the job offer is for your partner. You can simply treat it as a vacation of sorts!

Umm, did I make it sound too phony a fantasy? While some parts of the surprise he threw at me were so yummy and exciting, others were simply daunting and threatening my existence. For me work comes naturally, I have never been at someone else’s mercy (that's how I am wired) but now I had to get onboard with quitting my job for a dream which was unplanned and so blur at the moment. The year 2020 shifted gears and went into super slow speed with only one goal, to consolidate our belongings and move our bums to a fresh start. Well, with COVID-19 hanging like a sword above our necks and green light beyond the dark tunnel was a ray of hope and something to look forward to. Thus began our journey and I would love to take you on this journey with me as we start our expat lives in the year 2021.

Let's have a look at the hardships, the amazements, the baffling and yet hilarious things we end up learning as we become expats and try to find our routes without a map in the Alpines of Austria.

    1. Yes, everything works out in the end... even though it may seem like the universe is not listening, it listens a lot :P by the way, I did manage to start at least 8/10 things on my list :)
